The purpose of the California WaterFix (WaterFix) Aquatic Science Peer Review Phase 2 is to provide the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) with an independent scientific evaluation of draft sections of the NMFS’ and FWS’ Biological Opinions (BiOps) on WaterFix for all federal Endangered Species Act-listed aquatic species and their critical habitat. The draft BiOps sections include the analytical approach of the NMFS and analytical framework of FWS, status of the species and critical habitat, environmental baseline, and effects analysis sections. The review will also provide independent scientific peer review of a proposed approach to establishing Longfin Smelt outflow criteria as modeled in the California Endangered Species Act permit for WaterFix.
