GoalTo conduct a broad review of the methods and approaches to estimate water supply reliability and the organization of these estimation efforts within California; to identify issues and challenges; and to define potential future considerations for California‘s Delta water uses (see prospectus for more information).

ImpetusThe Delta Independent Science Board (ISB) is legislatively mandated to review science activities in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta that supportsmanagement. Past reviews include water quality and fish and flows research in the Delta. The Delta ISB is now undertaking a review on water supply reliability estimation.
Workshop Check In/Registration: 8:30 am to 9:00 am
Due to the interactive nature of the workshop, pre-registration is encouraged (see registration form). Please register by January 4 to help with workshop planning.

Questionnaire: To help inform the workshop discussion, attendees should fill out the pre-workshop questionnaire. It will be most useful to the Delta ISB if you complete the questionnaire by 5:30 pm on January 4. However, the Delta ISB will consider all responses received until January 25 for the review itself.

 11. Workshop: Steps Toward Implementing Recommendations from the Delta ISB’s Water Quality Review
  a. Opening Remarks from the Delta ISB
  b. Presentation: Perspectives from the Delta Science Program and the Delta Stewardship Council
John Callaway, Lead Scientist of the Delta Science Program, will present ideas on how the Council and its Delta Science Program can move forward with the recommendations from the review.
  c. Presentation: An Update on Efforts to Implement Assembly Bill 1755 (AB1755; The Open and Transparent Water Data Act)
Gary Darling of the California Department of Water Resources will provide a presentation on the status of implementing AB1755, and will share his thoughts on whether implementing AB1755 will address the Delta ISB’s data management recommendations.

  d. Panel Discussion: Ideas for Implementing Recommendations
The Delta ISB will moderate a panel discussion about the findings and recommendations from the review. Panelists include Brian Bergamaschi (United States Geological Survey), Debra Denton (United States Environmental Protection Agency), Janis Cooke (Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board), Lisa Thompson (Regional San), Lynda Smith (Metropolitan Water District of Southern California), and Stephanie Fong (California Department of Fish and Wildlife).

In addition, comments during the Public Comment period shall be limited to matters within the Delta ISB’s jurisdiction and not on the agenda.
