On June 8, the Delta Independent Science Board (Delta ISB) will receive an update from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) on the Delta Conveyance Project. Afterward, the Delta ISB will discuss its preparation and work plan for its future review of the Environmental Impact Report and Environmental Impact Statement for the Delta Conveyance Project when these documents are released. This will include a brief presentation on the Delta Plan best available science framework, a discussion of the approach to the Delta ISB’s review, chapter assignments, and any questions or feedback received on what the Delta ISB should consider in its review.

On June 9, the Delta ISB will meet to discuss potential revisions to its operating guidelines, 
electing a new Chair-elect, outreach and communication of its completed reviews, and future reviews. Based on the discussion, the Delta ISB may take action to elect a new Chair-elect from its existing membership.

Discussion: Revisions to the Operating Guidelines

The Delta ISB last revised its operating guidelines in June 2020. At this meeting, the Delta ISB will discuss its operating guidelines and potential revisions. This is a discussion item only. No action will be taken at this meeting to amend the operating guidelines.

  10. Election of New Delta ISB Chair-elect (Action Item)

Dr. Stephen Brandt’s term as Chair concludes on August 31, 2022, and Dr. Lisa Wainger’s term as Chair begins on September 1, 2022. The Delta ISB will discuss the election of a new Chair-elect and may take action to elect a new Chair-elect from its existing membership. Once elected, the new Chair-elect’s duties will begin on September 1, 2022.

The Delta ISB has completed its non-native species reviewmonitoring enterprise review, and is in the process of finalizing its water supply reliability estimation review. The Delta ISB will discuss next steps and outreach efforts for these reviews.

    a. Swimming upstream: A Year with the Delta Science Program by Allegra La Ferr, California Sea Grant State Fellow
    b. Out of the Woods and into the Delta by Kristine Grace Cabugao, Delta ISB Postdoctoral Scholar
    c. Anadromous Science: Researching Climate Change from the Ocean to the Delta by Lillian McCormick, Delta ISB Postdoctoral Scholar
    Allegra La Ferr, the current California Sea Grant State Fellow, along with Kristine Grace Cabugao and Lillian McCormick, the current Delta ISB postdoctoral scholars, will provide an overview of their past research, interests, and what they hope to get out of their work with the Delta ISB.
  14. Overview of Delta ISB Field Tour on June 10

On June 10, Delta ISB will tour the Central Valley Project’s Tracy Fish Collection Facility, C.W. “Bill” Jones Pumping Plant, and the Delta Cross Channel, along with the UC Davis Fish Conservation and Culture Laboratory (see June 10 meeting notice for more information).
